Toolkit Towards Publication is an exclusive new publishing course being delivered directly by literary agent Alex Adsett for the first time ever. It builds on workshops previously run for Writers Centres (so we know it works!) with extra material and special guests bringing their additional expertise.
With a limited class size – big enough to build a network of authors and discussion, not so big that you’ll get lost – this is an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, connections and confidence in your writing journey towards publication.
What you get
- 6 x 90 min interactive zoom workshops, presented by literary agent Alex Adsett.
- Week 1 Introduction to Literary Agents – what they do, when and if you need one.
- Week 2 Overview of the Publishing Industry by Departments, with industry guest joining to discuss Acquisitions Meetings and Costings.
- Week 3 Whirlwind overview of Publishing copyright, with industry guest to discuss self-editing for authors.
- Week 4 Tricks and traps of Publishing Contracts, with industry guest to discuss considerations of cultural competency when approaching First Nations content.
- Week 5 Pitching Dos and Donts (horror stories from the trenches of pitching, and how not to make the same mistakes)
- Week 6 Live Pitching with critique by Alex, with possible industry guests. (It is optional to actually do a pitch for for this, and names will be drawn at random)
- Access to an exclusive Facebook group to network with your fellow participants during the week, and ask extra questions of Alex as they come up.
- A chance to practice pitching your actual manuscript (or a made up manuscript) to the class, for constructive feedback from Alex.
