Alex Adsett Literary is excited to announce that the agency has acquired The Author’s Agent from Brian Cook, effective 1 July 2022.
Cook will be staying with the agency for a 12-month transition period, through to June 2023, after which he plans on retiring from the industry. He said that he is “really delighted that Alex has bought this agency and that the family of my clients will be making the move to Alex accordingly. It is time for me to go and Alex is a perfect fit for this business going forward”.
The Authors’ Agent, which has recently focused exclusively on children’s and YA authors, represents clients including Jules Faber, Wai Chim, Kate Gordon, Oliver Phommavanh, James Foley, Hannah Sommerville, Christina Booth, Sherryl Clark, Tania Ingram and Tracey Dembo.
“When Brian first approached me about taking on his children’s list and agency, I was honoured to start the conversation,” said Adsett. “The more I looked into the incredible list of authors he represents, the more the deal made sense. Not only does Brian have a beautifully curated list of talented and lovely children’s authors and illustrators, but I felt strongly I could work with them to build their careers, and continue from the strong foundation Brian has already put in place.”
Adsett, who was “joined in the agency by Rochelle Fernandez as a second agent building her own list” last year, will continue to operate Alex Adsett Literary and Alex Adsett T/A The Authors’ Agent as separate entities.
“I look forward to continuing to work with Brian over the next 12 months, and am excited by this further opportunity to grow my agency,” Adsett said.
