Authors For Fireys Auction

Jan 6, 2020 | News & Articles

***** UPDATE 20th January 2020*****

The numbers are in, the #authorsforfireys auction has raised more than half a million dollars! I am proud and honoured that bids to pitch to AAPS raised FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS of this. (Seriously $15,000!). The two official winning bidders came to $2550 and $2500, but with matching from employers, and opening up to the very close, high bidders, we have stretched this to $15,000 for firefighters and wildlife in NSW & Vic. Thank you so much to everyone who bid, and to the incredible team who kicked this off.

6th January 2020

Following the devastating bush fires that have swept Australia this summer, the writing community is pulling together the most incredible auction of books and services to raise funds for our incredible firefighters.  After feeling so helpless watching the fires race through, I’m honoured to join the ranks of Australia’s literary community to offer my literary agent’s services for #authorsforfireys.

To the two top bidders for this auction, following proof of donation, I’m offering:

  • an opportunity to pitch your manuscript, and
  • receive a minimum of two pages of written feedback on the synopsis (1-2 pages) and first 5000 words (about 20 pages).

This is open to authors of all genres and age groups, from picture books to middle grade, young adult, commercial fiction, literary and narrative non-fiction. For pitching purposes, my agency represents almost everything (check the pitch guidelines here), but I can provide manuscript and strategic advice even if you are writing in genres we do not take on.

About me, I’m a literary agent with more than twenty years experience working in publishing in Australia and the UK. I have run my own agency since 2008. I represent an amazing list of forty-something authors including Miles Franklin winning Melissa Lucashenko, beloved and best-selling fantasy author Isobelle Carmody, journalist Ruby Hamad, and many more.

Bids are via twitter and close on Saturday 11th January, 11pm AEDT. Wiki for more details here: https://authorsforfireys.wixsite.com/website
