Tips for Self Publishers

Authors, please be wary of any publisher who asks for any payment from you before they agree to publish.  Payments may take the form of an upfront fee to print copies, a fee to edit, typeset or cover design, or a requirement on you to purchase a minimum number of copies. If the publisher is asking for a payment, consider your options. Could you get the same number of copies printed for less cost? Have you checked with your local bookshop to see if they have any of the publisher’s books in stock? Have you investigated reviews of the publisher? Does the publisher have a national distribution network?
